“We, Too, Are America” by Kodi Ezegbo

Winner- Best Poetry

by Kodi Ezegbo ’23

We too, are America.
We as in those who are forgotten after being killed at the hands of the people in uniform.
Those who can’t have a seat at the table, those who are constantly labeled.
Labeled by the ones who brought us here, and continuously cause us to fear.
Fear created in the neighborhoods that were once thriving, but thanks to them, are now dying.
But soon, next year,
A new administration will be here.
One that actually cares for people like me.
Not just me, but a unified we,
Because we too, are America.
