“A Certain Sorrow” by Ellen Jacobson

by Ellen Jacobson ’23

There is a certain Sorrow that arrives with loss-
The disquietude of forgotten memories and chalky photos to be tossed-
Desperately, we cling to what we’ve discerned since our conception-
Death is inevitable yet temporary for in my heart stems resurrection-

To heal is to hurt yet pain is but momentary-
Hopelessly cursing words said preliminarily-
Hatred becomes acceptance while acceptance turns to healing
And the pain that once paralyzed is but a forgotten feeling-
